BooksThatMatter (Adrian's Random Rubbish)...

Books That Matter started out as a log of my reading and thoughts on books and publishing - but life as a literary agent has taken over & my reading is focussed on books for work not recreational reads. So Books That Matter is going RANDOM and will be any old rubbish that comes into my mushy brain. I am really, truly, sorry and can't apologise enough for the betrayal of my own high-minded literary ideals in exchange for personal drivel ... but it might be funnier (you never know)

MURDER IN THE NAME OF HONOUR

I am temporarily reverting to the original purpose of this blog which was to talk about books of significance. Very few books matter quite as much as Rana Husseini's book MURDER IN THE NAME OF HONOUR which is a truly significant book about so-called honour crimes by one of our bravest human rights journalists. Rana is someone everyone should know of, listen to, think about and read. More ex-s than I care to think about - ex-journalist, ex-broadcaster, ex-arts-administrator, I run an agency called Raft PR. We have a marketing and communciations division and an agenting and representation division. In real life (ie the fantasy parallel existance I've been harbouring since my teens) I'm a writer and musician. I play Sax & Flute with a combo called Carnival Collective and currently have a novel for 8-12 year olds sitting making promising noises on an agent's desk. Oh yes, my drawers are FULL of manuscripts. I've had short fiction published in Australia in Meanjin and in the UK by Serpent's Tail.
